MIAMI (PRWEB) MARCH 07, 2019

Ecosystems, in partnership with property owner BH Management, announced today that they completed the most extensive continuous water conservation retrofit in history. Ecosystems specializes in designing and implementing water conservation programs. Their recent initiative, spanning 23 properties and 12,668 bathrooms in 8,615 units, saved 175.8 million gallons of water and $1.2 million in costs—an estimated 38 percent reduction in water usage and 34 percent decrease in cost.

Their 16-month program relied on Freddie Mac’s Green Advantage® program, which incentivizes water and energy conservation in multifamily properties. “EcoSystems is our energy efficiency expert, helping us navigate the new Freddie Mac green lending requirements and supporting us in achieving the highest efficiencies required to qualify for the loans,” explained Mike Watkins, Director of Construction at BH Management. “Not only have we qualified, but our properties are saving water and energy, and we are maximizing the value of our assets.”

The effort focused on ridding each multifamily complex of old and wasteful toilets, showerheads and aerators and replacing them with ultra-high-efficiency 0.8 GPF Niagara Stealth toilets, water-saving fixtures, and other preventative maintenance measures. “EcoSystems’ turnkey process secured us an average ROI in 26 months, with estimated rebates of $250,000, making this among the most valuable investments we have ever made,” added Watkins.

“Ecosystem’s partnership with BH Management will both reduce the ecological footprint of the 23 properties involved and help lower utility costs for the more than 8,600 tenants,” said Freddie Mac Vice President of Production & Sales Peter Giles, who leads the Green Advantage® initiative. “Overall, our green program has financed $36 billion in loans that are being used to lower utility costs for 367,000 rental units nationwide. At an average savings of $165 per unit, per year, and a total water savings of 3.6 billion gallons per year, Green Advantage® is a win-win for the environment and tenants.”

“We are thrilled to partner with BH Management on such a historical water conservation effort,” said Richard Lamondin, CEO and co-founder of EcoSystems. “Our model proves that conservation is good for business–bridging the gap between public necessity and private benefit. BH Management understands this as it continues to secure attractive rates, returns on their investment and savings that last for years after the project is complete.”
